About Author
Salam Ansari retired from the Bank of India as a Special Assistant after an illustrious career spanning thirty-seven and a half years. Determined to maintain an active lifestyle, he devoted thirteen years to regular evening gym sessions from 8 to 10 p.m., pausing only during the two years of the Covid pandemic.
With more free time on his hands, Salam found himself reminiscing about his formative years at St. Peterâs School in Panchgani. What began as late-night writing sessionsâoften starting after 11 p.m. and continuing past midnightâsoon unlocked a flood of vivid memories. Initially, he shared each completed chapter with forty schoolmates and fellow Panchgani enthusiasts via WhatsApp, and also posted them on Facebook in alumni groups of Kimmins High School, St. Peterâs School, and St. Josephâs Convent School.
The response was overwhelming. Former classmates and alumni warmly embraced the stories, recalling their own school days and urging him to keep writing. Notable among his supporters were Mr. Jack Timmins, former Principal of St. Peterâs and now based in Australia, and Mr. Amin Hajee, a film director, producer, actor, and social activist. Mr. Timmins encouraged Salam to compile these nostalgic tales into a book, calling it an âunofficial recordâ of the school.
The book took three years to complete, with heartfelt help from Salamâs grandsonsâRiyan, who managed all Facebook postings, and Eisa, who diligently typed the chapters on his laptop. What started as a personal trip down memory lane has now become a lasting tribute to his school, his friends, and the cherished town of Panchgani.
